The educational discussion will be moderated by Susan Lerner of Common Cause / New York, and will feature the following speakers:

We are at a critical moment in time with the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Louisiana vs. Callais nullifying the use of Section 2 Voting Rights Act challenges, followed by a Virginia Supreme Court decision preventing the use of a new Democratic-friendly map for 2026. National Democrats are ramping up efforts to counter GOP partisan gerrymanders wherever they can. State Senators and Assemblymembers responded by passing a Mid-cycle redistricting amendment at the end of 2026 NYS legislative session, which will require it to go on the ballot to vote during the November 2027 elections. If passed, what does this mean for New Yorkers, especially for communities of color? 

This educational discussion will cover redistricting 101, its impact on voting, the national context of redistricting and where New York fits in all of this, and solutions to issues impacting voting rights for communities of color.
