NAACP New York State Conference Statement on Governor Hochul’s 2026 State of the State Address

ALBANY, NY — Today, Governor Kathy Hochul laid out a robust and forward-looking vision for New York in her 2026 State of the State address. The NAACP New York State Conference commends the Governor’s commitment to addressing some of the most pressing issues facing our communities, including protecting New Yorkers from the everchanging landscape of federal overreach.

The State Conference applauds the Governor for her leadership on addressing New Yorkers concerns around affordability including a promise to deliver Universal Child Care and Pre-K. Governor Hochul’s proposals to strengthen immigration protections and further regulate AI are also in alignment with State Conference priorities.

While we stand ready to partner on the vast majority of these initiatives, we will not stop fighting tirelessly for the systemic reforms necessary to ensure every Black New Yorker – regardless of their background or zip code – can truly thrive.
