The new school year has begun! In support of local students several NAACP Branches gave away hundreds of backpacks and school supplies throughout their communities, including Mid-Manhattan Branch, Jamaica Branch and Brooklyn Branch.
The Mid-Manhattan Branch, led by President Geoffrey E. Eaton, hosted their 1st Annual Back to School Backpack Giveaway at the Children’s Aid - Dunlevy Milbank Center in Harlem. The Mid-Manhattan Civic Engagement Committee alongside Hip Hop Legend Grandmaster Caz and Bad Body Records Executive Shawn Prez celebrated Hip Hop Recognition Month where they focused on political awareness, mental health and physical health, as well as Voter Registration and the 2020 Census.

Additionally the Jamaica Branch, led by President Candace Prince-Modeste, along with the Swim Strong Foundation, hosted a screening and discussion of the short film “Blacks Can’t Swim”, which explores the reasons why many minority groups fail to recognize the importance of the potentially life-saving skill of swimming.
